I wrote this song for my family after I started a dialogue with them about being queer.
lyrics
I dreamed last night that my father built himself a great canoe
he filled it with the wisdom that his younger self could never know
He said:
Son dont go where it is that ive gone.
These lessons Ive learned I learned on my own.
And these lessons ive learned they were hard earned
now take them with you and go.
But i got stranded in a valley low
until mother mountain made the rivers flow
The river was rough and the water was warm
but i was alone and my heart was torn
until i found a stream where i built my home
it was there that i learned that im not alone
She said:
Im proud of you son and the things that youve done
your heart beats now and it beats on its own.
The mountains were high and the valleys were low
its time to build a boat of your own
So i built a boat for a fox and a ram
they crossed the stream and away they ran
with paddle in hand the world was their own
the years will be hard but they'll help you grow
I said:
Brother dont go where it is that ive gone.
These lessons Ive learned I learned on my own.
And these lessons ive learned they were hard earned
now take them with you and go.
This song is modal tuning G C G C D. I dont know the chords or how to write tab. sorry.
